I was diagnosed with NF when I was three months old, so I grew up with NF. My whole life has revolved around NF. I have never known anything different. However, I have not let the obstacles life has thrown at me stop me from pursuing my dreams. As a senior in high school, I am unsure of my future education plans but was accepted into all 11 of the universities I applied to- my top choice is Baylor University. Many people told me it was a long shot, but I accomplished my goals and am pursuing my dreams.
NF doesn’t define me or what I am capable of. As I am still in high school, I am on the varsity cheer squad, I serve on the Executive Board for Student Government, I have directed my own production of a play, and I absolutely love theatre. I also compete in pageants where I have gotten to tell many people about NF and share my platform, in which I encourage others to treat people who look different with kindness.
Motivation has been hard, but mostly my faith in God has kept me optimistic about my future. I have raised thousands of dollars over my life, and donated to organizations such as this one, to help others and help find a cure. I also started a platform my freshman year called, “Being Different is Beautiful,” raising awareness for the disorder, my goal is to show kids- even though they are different and may look different- they are beautiful and can do anything they put their minds to.
