Blane came to our foster home as an infant. Prior to his birth mom relinquishing her parental rights, she suggested that Blane might have NF1, which was very prevalent in her family. He was diagnosed with NF1 when he was 8 months old, right before we adopted him.
We had never heard of NF prior to adopting Blane. He has tumors just under the skin, a cluster of tumors in his pelvic area, and a tumor on his brain. Blane had surgery in 8th grade to vent the cysts that grow around the tumor. He is exploring career opportunities that he can do with his developmental challenges.
Blane just graduated high school. We are preparing for transition services, and to help him live as an adult the best that he can. Blane also has autism and an intellectual disability. He has worked the past 15 months for a couple hours a week at our town’s little grocery store!
Blane likes to walk, run, and play basketball. He likes participating in STARS (Steamboat Adaptive Recreation Sports) programs. He likes to create things from scraps. He likes werewolves and wolfs. Blane got to be the school mascot for basketball season!
