Q&A with Thompson Square

By May 3, 2019January 17th, 2024Fundraiser

On Monday, May 6, 2019, GRAMMY-nominated, MULTI-PLATINUM Country duo Thompson Square will perform A Night of Hope: A Concert to End NF at the Franklin Theatre in Franklin, TN, to raise awareness and money for neurofibromatosis.

Thompson Square is comprised of husband-and-wife team, Keifer and Shawna Thompson. Since breaking out in 2010 with their 2X-PLATINUM #1 smash “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not,” the pair have gone on to score two Top 5 albums and another romantic #1 hit with PLATINUM-certified “If I Didn’t Have You” while also racking up multiple GRAMMY nominations and three trophies as Vocal Duo of the Year from the ACM and CMA Awards. Thompson Square’s third studio album, MASTERPIECE, is out now.

In the days leading up to the benefit concert, we asked Keifer and Shawna to share what inspires them and how it feels to give back to the NF community.

What’s your inspiration for your music?
Life. Just paying attention to what’s going on around our life and us in general. There’s always something to talk about and I think that’s where the real stuff comes from.

Why did you agree to perform at A Night of Hope: A Concert to End NF?
The answer is, why wouldn’t you!  Any chance we get to lift up those in need is an honor and responsibility.

As parents, what does it mean to you to raise awareness about a genetic disorder that is frequently diagnosed in childhood?
Everything changes when you have a kid.  The only thing you want and pray for is your child’s wellbeing and for them to be healthy and happy. Each child is a blessing and we don’t take for granted the health of our child. I do think if you as a parent aren’t dealing with a child with a genetic disorder, it’s just not in the forefront of your thoughts. It’s great to be able to open the eyes of those of us who aren’t dealing with NF to help those who are.

What’s it like being on tour with your family?
It’s been the most amazing transition in tour life. What could be better than playing music for a living and being able to be with your family everyday seeing the world and enjoying each other? We feel very blessed.

What are your plans after the tour is over?
After taking a small break to relax we’ll be gearing up for the next tour.  It never ends and we love it.  We have a new record company family, too. They’re so excited about all the things that we are doing and want to do. So, we’re just consumed with creativity right now.  It’s going to be a great year!
