CARS FEATURING WORK BY ARTIST AND CTF NF HERO JEFF HANSON WIN AT WATKINS GLEN AND TAKE SECOND AT MOSPORT
BOWMANVILLE, Ontario, Canada — From midway through the race to the beginning of the penultimate lap of this weekend’s TUDOR Championship race, it looked like the #73 Park Place Motorsports / Children’s Tumor Foundation Porsche was well-placed to bring home a win at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, the first of the year for drivers Patrick Lindsey and Kévin Estre. However, as it had for much of the race, traffic played a factor, holding Estre up at just the wrong moment and allowing the second-place Viper into the lead. Despite a valiant push, Kévin was unable to re-take the position, and ended the race in second place.
“While we would have liked to take the win, we’re quite pleased with our result here today,” remarked Lindsey. “Our crew delivered a flawless car and pit stop, and Kévin drove his heart out. It’s a shame that traffic from a different class affected the outcome, but that’s one of the joys of multi-class racing. I do wish we could have closed this one out for all of the NF Heroes, but we will get one before the year is done.”
The Porsche is wrapped in an eye-catching livery featuring artwork by renowned artist and NF Hero Jeff Hanson in support of the Children’s Tumor Foundation’s Racing4Research™ program. Begun at the season-opening TUDOR race at Daytona, the program has since expanded to include the Park Place Porsche, as well as three additional cars run by long-time CTF team Compass360 Racing.
One of those cars was the #75 Honda Civic Si of Kyle Gimple and Ryan Eversley that won the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge race at Watkins Glen two weeks prior. “It was such an honor to give the CTF families their first win of the season at Watkins,” enthused Gimple. “We got some great television coverage of the car and on the podium for the Foundation, and we hope to do that again before the year is out.”
The second place for Park Place at Mosport is the sixth podium of the year for Racing4Research cars. Eversley and Gimple took second place at Watkins Glen in the #77 C360R Subaru WRX STi, while Team Principal Karl Thomson has three podiums in the #72 Honda Civic Si he races in the Pirelli World Challenge. All cars feature the Art Car livery, and the original artwork will be auctioned off at the annual Children’s Tumor Foundation Benefit Gala in New York City this October.
Artist Hanson is visually impaired from an optic nerve tumor related to neurofibromatosis – known simply as NF – that is a common yet under-recognized genetic disorder that can cause tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body. NF affects one in every 3,000 people, more than cystic fibrosis, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and Huntington’s disease combined. The Children’s Tumor Foundation actively supports research into treatments and a cure for NF by bringing academics, scientists, clinicians, and companies together to work in collaboration towards an end to neurofibromatosis.
“It’s wonderful to have had such great success with our partner teams this season,” noted R4R Program Director Jill Beck. “At each event we have local families living with NF come out to cheer on our Art Cars, and seeing the smiles on the faces of the kids and their parents living with this disease make us push even harder to raise donations to fund the research to end NF.”
The Canadian Tire Motorsports Park race was broadcast live on FOX Sports 1, and can be watched any time on IMSA TV at http://IMSA.com.
The next event for the Park Place Motorsports and Compass360 Racing Art Cars is at The Brickyard, Indianapolis on July 25th.
About Racing4Research
Developed by the Children’s Tumor Foundation, the Racing4Research™ (R4R) program utilizes competitive, professional auto racing as a vehicle to increase awareness of neurofibromatosis (NF) and to raise funds for research through corporate sponsorship, personal donations, and individual fundraising by NF Heroes – children and adults from around the country who live with neurofibromatosis.
