Batman and Superman joined 1,100 Detroiters in the Motor City to raise money and awareness to end neurofibromatosis
On Saturday, November 22, 2014, Jennifer and Dan Gilbert hosted The Benefit II: A Superhero Soirée to Conquer NF in Detroit, MI. Attendees had a blast dressing up as their favorite superheroes in support of our NF Heroes.
The Moss family, Philip, Sr., Renie, Philip, Jr. and Helen, accepted the 2014 CTF Strength and Honor Award, presented to them by Jennifer Gilbert. About the award, their son Philip said, “The sphere symbolizes NF and the figures below are treating current patients by holding the sphere and open-handed as they search for a cure.”
The caped crusader and Clark Kent weren’t the only superheroes in Detroit that night. Philip, Jr. and Helen Moss took a break from protecting the universe to pose with Dr. Bruce Korf, a member of the CTF Board of Directors.
Excitement peaked during the live and silent auctions, with items up for bid that included tickets to Carolina Herrera’s Fall Runway show during New York Fashion Week. In addition, superheroes Jim Bob and Laurée Moffett joined the crusade and matched money raised during the research auction.
At the end of the night, Superman, Captain America and all the other NF Heroes changed out of their costumes and returned home, some to Smallville, some to 1941, many to their warm beds in Detroit, but not before helping the Children’s Tumor Foundation get one step closer to our goal to end NF.
