Congratulations to our friends at the Gilbert Family Foundation on the announcement of the launch of their Gene Therapy Initiative in NF1. With a substantial infusion of $12 million in research funding to top researchers over the next three years, the grants will support research that address the underlying genetic causes of NF1. This includes gene replacement, gene editing, RNA editing, exon skipping, and nonsense mutation suppression.
The founders of the Gilbert Family Foundation, Dan and Jennifer Gilbert, are longtime generous supporters of the Children’s Tumor Foundation, and recently hosted their 6th annual beNeFit event in Detroit to benefit NF research, including funding that comes to the Children’s Tumor Foundation. The two organizations regularly communicate research strategies and priorities with each other, including in the field of gene therapy, so as to efficiently leverage research opportunities that will benefit NF patients.
