Stories of NF: Peyton

By October 13, 2023January 30th, 2024Awareness, NF1, Story of NF

I was a baby when my grandparents noticed that my “cute smile” may be something more. I only smiled with the right side of my mouth. My tumor presses on the nerves that go to my cheek and I only smile out of the right side of my mouth. My mom, Jaclene, and my dad, Ruben, always tell me that I am beautiful and made just the way God wanted me to be.

At first I was very, very scared of the machines for my scans and the blood tests, the doctors would have to put me to sleep. Now that I’m used to them I’m not scared. I know that I am brave and strong.

My beautiful and different smile is not too much of a problem, but kids sometimes do make fun of me. My parents have taught me not be sad about it, but sometimes it is hard. I tell them “This is how God made me and there is nothing wrong with me.” I know that I can do anything!

I love playing with my little sister and my cousins when I visit them in Texas. I love when my Momma flies to pick me up every summer to go to see my dad in Texas. Airports are my favorite, specially when I get to have my pink drink from Starbucks. There are so many things that I love and make me happy. I love going to the beach in Cape Cod and in Galveston, Texas, with my family. I really, really love shopping and going out to eat Chinese food. I love gymnastics and going to my classes and competitions. Most of all, I love my mommy, my dad, my stepdad, my grandparents and all of my family…and there’s a bunch of them too. I’m really excited to be turning ten later this year!

Favorite Song
Heat Wave by Glass Animals

Dream Superpower
I think my superpower would be flying. This way I could fly back and forth to my dad and family in Texas. That would be so much fun.

Favorite Food
My momma’s (Grandmother) empanadas. My mommy’s are pretty good too.

Fun Fact
I love, love, love gymnastics.
