We are sorry for the inconvenience, this is STILL the NF Endurance Energy Blog. We updated our WordPress version and it kind of messed things up... ehh errr... It should hopefully be fixed soon!
Active Giving’s new Facebook App has been successfully released said Michele Crepeau, an industry sales manager at Active Network. Fundraisers can now link over to start using Active Giving’s Facebook Application directly from the front and back ends of Active Giving. “This is a tremendous step to get Active Giving into the social media scene, and we are looking forward to this free application helping you to raise more money,” said Crepeau in an e-mail announcement to the NF Endurance Team.
With more than 500 million users, Facebook has changed the way that many individuals, businesses and organizations communicate. The NF Endurance Fan Page has more than 1,000 fans. “With so many members of our team on Facebook, this tool will be an opportunity to create more awareness and generate more funds for research,” said Steve Kendra, director of the NF Endurance Team.
Active Network’s Facebook Application will allow users to integrate fundraising into their daily communications on Facebook. The new application can be used by anyone with a fundraising page and a Facebook account. This application will allow users to expand their fundraising reach to additional networks of friends, family and contacts.
The new features include a thermometer bar widget displaying a user’s fundraising goal and money raised to date. In addition, there will also be a direct link to an ActiveGiving donation page. Donors, family and friends can support users by sharing the link of a donation page on their own profiles, which will also appear in Facebook newsfeeds.
SAN FRAN
From the early morning smells of sourdough bread baking…to the sun setting over the bay, it’s no wonder why Tony Bennett sang that it’s easy to leave your heart in San Francisco. On Sunday NFE runners, led by co-captains Josh Thieriot and Cathie Leys, will put their hearts on the course for NF Heroes in the San Francisco Marathon. Steve Kendra will be staffing the event. The San Francisco Marathon is unique because it offers two half marathons, one marathon, a progressive marathon and a 5K. The NFE San Fran Team has raised more than $17,500. You can help them meet their goal by donating here.
RESEARCH
Check out Dr. Kim Hunter-Schaedle’s thoughts on Avastin and Breast Cancer on the Foundation’s blog this week. In the news this week, a Food and Drug Administration advisory recommended that the drug Avastin (bevacizumab), the best selling product of Roche, have its 2008 approval for advanced breast cancer treatment revoked. BUTTAR BUDDIES
Tracy Draper has helped NFE partner with Buttar.com, a race organization for events such as triathlons. Tracy recently competed in the Moss Park Tri in Orlando, Fla., and placed fourth in her age group. She is pictured here with her daughter, Suzie.
Active Fundraising Page of the Week Monica Hattoon-Green Why we like it: Monica’s clean design allows the viewer to clearly get the message: little Maria, a family friend, has NF and could really use a cure. She succinctly describes what NF is and what can happen when symptoms manifest. She also directs viewers to learn more about research advancements by using “Team Fundraising Dollars at Work.”
SUPPORT
Check out this article that highlights how volunteering can make a difference in your community (and, we like how it mentions our favorite keynote speaker, Steve Kendra). Steve spoke this week to the Pennridge Community Education Foundation about the importance of helping others. We can’t think of a better person to talk about making difference in the lives of others.
CREATE A VIDEO
Tell your hero’s story by creating a video. This inexpensive and free method can tell even more about why you run. Brian Lease created this poignant video of his son Noah. Noah has spent 26 out of 58 months of his life in chemo, which ended in April 2010. Noah’s oncologist has given him a 50/50 chance of relapse in the next two years. “I have continued my lifelong commitment to raise funds running endurance events until there is a cure for NF,” said Brian, Noah’s dad. In 2009 Brian completed three half marathons, a 25K and one marathon in honor of Noah.
EAT SUPER FOODS
Suzanne Hickman, an NFE staff member, shared this interesting article on “Super Foods’ from Dr. Oz. The first on her list to try? Imo.
ALL STAR FOOTBALL
On Monday, June 7, 2010 the NFE Sellersville Staff helped staff the Montgomery County Allstar game. Proceeds of the ticket sales benefited the Children’s Tumor Foundation. Picture at left, Judy Kendra, Valerie Blaxall and Suzanne Hickman sell “RuNFor a Reason” T-shirts. This partnership started after Kirstin Hardy, daughter of NFE Staff Member Trish Hardy, presented to the Souderton–Telford Rotary Club. The Montgomery Allstar Classic has been played since 1968, and has featured thousands of standout highschool football players, and features two teams, North and South. “The South may have won the game,” said Steve Kendra, “but in the end it was our Foundation and people with NF who are the real winners.”
SNAGIT
“I am sure this picture capture tool (using the example of your own page) will really enhance our team fundraising efforts with the active giving fundraising pages,” said Bob Skold. You can check out more about this nifty tool at TechSmith.
Site of the Week Melisa Calison Why we love it: it has courage written all over it. Melisa has reached out to connect with kids ‘like her’ (more about the fabulous four photo to come next week), and her openness to share her story.
Video of the Week Watch Dawn Lowell crosses the finish line at the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Marathon. Lowell was part of an NFE San Diego Team that raised more than $27,000 for research for the Foundation. To check out more photos and video from the weekend, please visit our photo gallery.
