We are sorry for the inconvenience, this is STILL the NF Endurance Energy Blog. We updated our WordPress version and it kind of messed things up... ehh errr... It should hopefully be fixed soon!
The 2010 Portland Marathon on Oct. 10, 2010 is doing something different this year — offering a HALF Marathon — hugely exciting. The 3,000 slots went quickly, but NFE has charity slots. We are hoping that you fill one of those slots and race for research.
You will be a part of a team that has attained the status of being the nation’s largest publicly funded NF Research entity. Our teams raised $1.4 million in 2009. All donations to the NF Endurance Team are restricted for use in the Foundation science and research programs. NFE continues its commitment to advancing NF Research; we now provide close to one third of the funds to support the annual Foundation’s research budget. Recent advances in NF research are moving us significantly closer to reaching our goal of FDA approved treatments for neurofibromatosis.
We have added our name to the Charity Team Roster of many events, and our signature neon yellow and blue race singlets are becoming known all over the country. The ball is definitely rolling. It is our job now to keep it going…to keep it growing!
Will you join us this year and fill one of these half marathon slots? We are asking that you raise only $600…an easy goal to obtain, especially this far out! This fundraising commitment will cover your registration fee. To register, go to NF Endurance, view our video, and click on enter site and then signup. We will sign you up with Portland so that you only have to register once.
Our Gala Pasta Dinner on October 9 will be held again in the beautiful Buchan Reception Hall with its lighted courtyard at the First Unitarian Church. A very special evening is being planned.
Let’s light up the streets of Portland in our bright NEON YELLOW!
Don’t miss out on the magic of the inaugural Portland Half Marathon on 10.10.10. It’s sold out, but NFE has charity slots! For more information, please e-mail Molly at (Enable Javascript to see the email address).

The No. 14 car came in battered and sporting duct tape. After 24 hours of racing, the Foundation’s Porsche GT3 car finished 15th in class on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, after 611 laps around Daytona. It was all part of a program called Racing4Research to raise awareness about NF.
In addition to the NF Endurance Team, the Children’s Tumor Foundation offers an array of programs such as Racing4Research, that also help fund research and generate awareness about NF. Racing4Research raises money through fundraising by NF Heroes, individual donations, and corporate sponsorship. The 2010 R4R program has already raised more than $300,000 for NF research, bypassing their goal for the year.
This is the fourth year the Foundation has partnered with a racing team to sponsor a car in the Rolex 24. The uncertainty and challenges of NF can parallel the obstacles a race car encounters during during a 24 hour race. Racing4Research director Jill Beck is personally affected with NF; her husband Bob suffers from Schwannomatosis.
One of the most memorable moments for Stephanie Yolish, who works with the Racing4Research program, was just prior to the start of the race. “Glen Gatlin, a first time driver for us this year, who did not know what NF was before this weekend, gathered everyone around the car before it was about to be pushed onto the race track,” said Yolish. “He asked everyone – NF families, crew, drivers, supporters, anyone with a blue Foundation hat on, to gather around the car and connect with each other. It is truly amazing to see a group of people – the drivers and the crew – who have no touch to NF, know nothing of NF before this program, get misty eyed and give their money, their resources, and all their efforts for our NF Heroes.”
A special thank you to all of the R4R drivers Daniel Graeff, Glen Gatlin, Seth Thomas, and Ron Yarab as well as crew chief Frank Resciniti. For more on the weekend in Daytona, check out Garrett Gleeson’s article on NBCSports.com.
Thanks to more than 140 runners and volunteers this past weekend at Disney World, the event was a huge success despite many challenges thrust upon us. From the magical snow in the wee hours of Saturday morning, to the rain, wind, cold temperatures, transportation issues, etc., NF Endurance proved once again that we have what it takes to ENDURE. Just as our NF heroes have to face challenges day in and day out, our teammates had to truly had to reach deep within to push beyond their limits. I must say that I am SO PROUD! It is such an honor to meet, run with, visit with and work with such an incredible team. Together we made a difference this weekend. To date we have raised $109,415 and the total continues to grow as more contributions are being posted daily. The active site will remain open through the end of the month. THANK YOU!
